The Westminster London area is probably best known for Buckingham Palace and of course the Houses of Parliament.
But the area is also home to many other great visitor attractions and of course is packed with history. It's a great place to visit and Is probably the most must see area for any visitor.

Buckingham Palace - The Mall
This is the Queen's official London residence. Nineteen of the state rooms and the gardens are open to visitors between July and 1 October. These dates may change due to official events.
You need to book in advance as tickets are limited.

Under 17 £10.25, Under 5 Free, Family tickets are available
Trafalgar Square
This is a free open square at the bottom of the Mall. At it's center is Nelson's Column.
The square is also home to fountains and large statues such as the four lions which sit at the foot of the column.
The National Art Gallery is also situated in the square.
Houses of Parliament & Big Ben
Home of the British Government this imposing building by the side of the river Thames is a symbol of London and recognized the world over.
The clock known as Big Ben (Big Ben is actually the name of the bell inside the clock) is also a part of the building and although currently not open to the public, it is still a must see for any visitor to London.

Downing Street
Home of the British prime Minister. The street is closed at one end to the public but views of the street and Number 10 are visible.

This is one of my favourite art galleries in London. It is free to enter and the collection consists of British art from the 16th century to the present day.
St James Park
A beautiful park in the Westminster London area. It is the oldest of the Royal Parks in London.
The park lies between The Mall and Birdcage walk and is a great place to relax after taking in the nearby Buckingham Palace and museums.

The Westminster London area is not really a major shopping area. You will find shops along some of the main high roads, especially round the Victoria area.
